Alexis Bledel Promises “Closure” for Rory’s Boyfriends

Nothing divides the Gilmore Girls fandom quite like Rory’s (Alexis Bledel) love life. But Bledel promises everyone will be happy with how the upcoming Netflix revival handles the returns of Dean (Jared Padalecki), Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) and Logan (Matt Czuchry).

“I think there is satisfying closure for any fans of any of the three couples that tend to get some attention,” Bledel told Us Weekly. “But they’re very different interactions. I would say each one of them [gets] closure in a different way.”

Premiering Nov. 25, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life consists of four 90-minute episodes, each focused on one of the four seasons, and will pick up in real time, eight years after viewers last visited Stars Hollow.

Although a first look photo led many to speculate that Rory had taken up teaching, Bledel says the Yale alum is still following her passion for journalism. “She has been working hard, as she does,” the actress said. “She started her work as a journalist at the same time that newspapers were going away. Her field changed dramatically as she was just kind of getting up and running. So that’s where we pick up with her.”

But while Rory loves chasing down stories, the jet-setting lifestyle of a reporter means she spends more time “crashing on couches” than “planting roots anywhere.” However, the death of her grandfather Richard (the late Edward Herrmann) will bring Rory back to Stars Hollow, where her mother Lorelai (Lauren Graham) has settled into a bit of a rut.

As Graham explained: “I would say not much has changed [for Lorelai], which is kind of where we start our story because she’s maybe had a case of slight arrested development, and something about losing her dad is going to propel her forward. But in most ways, in all the ways I loved the character, it’s the same.”

People Magazine Interview

Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel were recently interviewed by People magazine, talking about the upcoming Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, the 4-part revival of Gilmore Girls coming to Netflix on November 25th. In the interview, Lauren Graham talks about the loss of Edward Herrmann, who she shares “would have loved” the new series. As a big supporter of the show throughout his time, I can only imagine this to be true.

Lauren shares that though the loss of Edward Herrmann has been difficult, the loss of Richard Gilmore (his character on Gilmore Girls), gave the show “a new complexity and depth,” as we’ve heard before, almost as a “tribute” to Edward.

Lauren shares that walking back into the Gilmore mansion had its own surreal moment for her:

Walking back into the Gilmore house made me feel like, ‘I’m at home. I have to behave. Sit up straight!’

Alexis shares that the mother-daughter dynamic, which has progressed to women supporting each other, continues to be what fans have always loved:

“Their dynamic is so unique. There’s nothing else like it.”

In addition to these insights, People magazine shared a new still of Lauren Graham and co-star Alexis Bledel, which looks to be from the ‘Winter’ episode, the opening episode of Gilmore Girls.

Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life Spoilers: Alexis Bledel Says It Is All On The Page

Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham are reprising their roles as Rory Gilmore and Lorelai Gilmore in Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life. The reboot of the series created by Amy Sherman-Palladino will premiere on Netflix of Nov. 25.

Bledel and Graham starred in the original series from 2000 to 2007. It debuted on The WB in 2000 and moved to The CW in 2006.

It really felt like no time had passed,” Indie Wire quoted Bledel as saying. “It’s all on the page.

For Graham, going back to Stars Hollow was easy and exhilarating. It brought her back to the first time she played the part and she could not believe she got to do it again, she said.

A sneak peek at the first two minutes of the Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life premiere episode was screened at the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour. It started with Lorelai sipping coffee while sitting on the iconic gazebo alone.

Fresh from a plane trip home, Rory then joins her mother. Lorelai asks her daughter, “How long’s it been?

Feels like years,” Rory replies. The dialogue subtly refers to the time that has passed since Bledel and Graham last played the characters.

Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life is divided into four chapters and each chapter is 90 minutes long. According to Sherman-Palladino, this was exactly what they pitched.

What the series creator did not confirm was the fate of the series after the four new chapters on Netflix. She and her husband Daniel Palladino executive produce, write and direct the four episodes.

Aside from Bledel and Graham, original cast members Melissa McCarthy, Kelly Bishop, Keiko Agena, Scott Patterson and Yanic Truesdale are also in the reboot. Milo Ventimiglia, Jared Padalecki and Matt Czuchry are also reprising their roles as Rory’s love interests.
